My husband dropped me off at the office. In front of me was an Uber where my friend was just getting out, and beside it was someone I don’t exactly dislike but would rather not share the elevator with for the next five minutes. Since I had an incoming delivery, I decided to wait for it before going up. The delivery guy was delayed in traffic and would arrive later than expected, so I leaned closer to the lobby glass to check if the elevators were coming. My eyesight isn’t great, so I pressed my face right against the glass. To my surprise, I saw him and my friend waving and jumping, trying to get my attention, inviting me to come in and ride with them. I had always assumed the glass was frosted and never realized it was see-through. I gave a small, awkward wave, but I was so embarrassed. It felt absolutely chaotic!
Am I evil? It wasn’t about anything serious, I just don’t like being trapped in a tiny elevator with someone I feel absolutely nothing for. Most of my coworkers, I already know who I like and who I don’t. But with him, it’s like… blank screen. No Wi-Fi, no signal, nothing. I’d honestly rather stare at the floor numbers changing than try to make small talk. Was that really such a crime?
